In Pulawy the SIC!-delegation met directors of the major local social work institutions. The meeting was held in the local crisis intervention centre SDS that cares mainly about people with acute psychiatric problems. SDS offers therapy and if necessary day-and-night care for a modest number of clients in a well equipped building at the boarder of town. The centre is mainly financed by local government. Director Kwezszof Bernas stressed the importance of influencing local social politics as element of continuation and support of the centre. ‘The discussions and knowledge that SIC! is bringing, are very welcome’ he declared.

SIC!-director Ola Kowalska presented the Social Innovation Centre. Her presentation led to a short but well-pointed discussion about the capacities of SIC! and possibilities for cooperation, a discussion in which also took part Malgorzata Suszek (vice director SDS) and Maria Piastowicz of MOPS (the municipal social service).

In the meeting with the government of Pulawy, Zbigniew Slomka, deputy mayor of Pulawy-town, indicated that the position of social work in town is a problematic one. It is a matter of distribution money among other confronting problems. He told that the main social problems in Pulawy are: unemployment, alcohol- and drug-abuse, and youth problems. Mr. Slomka stressed: ‘I appreciate the visit of the SIC! delegation to the townhal and I am very interested in the work of SIC! and in possibilities for co operation.’

In the afternoon Kowalska and Blok held for an audience of 95 social workers of Pulawy-region presentations about modernisation of social work. The room of the city councel may not be the favourable place to give lectures, but it did’nt mind for the social workers.

Blok lectured on the nowadays views on task, methods and ethics of social work. Ola Kowalska presented the Social Innovation Centre as booster of change in Polish social work and local policy.
